A radiological finding where the degree of skeletal maturation, as assessed by bone age X-rays, is significantly ahead of the patient's chronological age. This condition suggests exposure to excess androgens, growth hormone, or thyroid hormones during development. Bone age advancement is commonly seen in precocious puberty, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, hyperthyroidism, and McCune-Albright syndrome. The degree of advancement helps predict final adult height and guides treatment decisions. Significant advancement may indicate the need for intervention to preserve growth potential, while mild advancement may be monitored without treatment.
