micropenis

Abnormally small but normally formed penis, typically defined as stretched penile length more than 2.5 standard deviations below the mean.

Full Definition

A condition characterized by a normally formed penis with length measurements falling below established age-specific reference ranges, typically more than 2.5 standard deviations below the mean for chronological age. The penis must be structurally normal with a normally positioned urethral meatus to distinguish it from other penile anomalies. Micropenis can result from fetal testosterone deficiency, growth hormone deficiency, hypothalamic-pituitary dysfunction, or genetic syndromes affecting androgen production or sensitivity. Accurate measurement requires standardization of technique, measuring stretched penile length from the pubic symphysis to the glans tip while compressing suprapubic adipose tissue. Evaluation includes assessment of associated anomalies, hormonal studies, and genetic testing when indicated. Treatment options depend on underlying etiology and may include hormone therapy or surgical intervention.

Usage

Usage note: Always include specific measurements and reference standards when documenting micropenis diagnosis.
