gastropexy

Full Definition

A surgical procedure involving the attachment of the stomach to the abdominal wall or adjacent structures to prevent abnormal rotation or displacement. In pediatric patients, gastropexy may be performed to prevent recurrent gastric volvulus, especially in children with congenital diaphragmatic hernia, paraesophageal hernia, or other conditions predisposing to gastric malposition. The procedure can be performed through open or laparoscopic approaches.

Usage

Usage note: Often confused with gastrostomy - gastropexy is fixation, not creation of a feeding access.
