Kappa-deleting recombination excision circles, DNA biomarkers used to assess B-cell development and function.

Full Definition

Kappa-deleting recombination excision circles (KRECs) are circular DNA molecules formed during B-cell receptor gene rearrangement in developing B cells. They serve as markers of recent bone marrow B-cell output and are increasingly used in newborn screening to detect agammaglobulinemia and other B-cell deficiencies. KRECs complement TRECs testing to provide a more comprehensive assessment of lymphoid development.
