Cellulitis is an acute spreading infection of the skin and soft tissues, most commonly caused by Streptococcus pyogenes or Staphylococcus aureus in children. The condition presents with erythema, warmth, swelling, and tenderness of the affected area, often with systemic symptoms such as fever. Prompt antibiotic treatment is essential to prevent complications including bacteremia, necrotizing fasciitis, or abscess formation.
