Continuous cycling peritoneal dialysis (CCPD) is a form of automated peritoneal dialysis that uses a machine called a cycler to perform multiple fluid exchanges during the night while the patient sleeps. In pediatric nephrology, CCPD is often preferred for school-age children as it allows normal daytime activities while providing adequate clearance. The cycler typically performs 3-5 exchanges over 8-10 hours, with programmable fill volumes, dwell times, and drain cycles. This modality offers flexibility in prescribing and can include a daytime dwell period if needed for additional clearance. CCPD requires careful attention to catheter care and sterile technique to prevent peritonitis.
