Growing rods are spinal instrumentation devices designed to correct and maintain scoliosis correction while preserving spinal and thoracic growth in young children. The system typically consists of dual rods anchored proximally and distally with periodic lengthening procedures every 6-12 months. This technique is used for early-onset scoliosis (before age 10) when definitive fusion would significantly compromise pulmonary development and final adult height.
