infantile Blount disease

The early-onset form of Blount disease affecting children under 4 years with characteristic medial tibial growth disturbance.

Full Definition

Infantile Blount disease is the early-onset form of tibia vara affecting children typically under 4 years of age, characterized by progressive medial angulation of the proximal tibia. The condition results from growth disturbance of the medial aspect of the proximal tibial physis and is often bilateral. Risk factors include early walking, obesity, and certain ethnic backgrounds. The Langenskiöld classification system grades the severity and guides treatment decisions between bracing and surgical intervention.

Usage

Usage note: Specify 'infantile' to distinguish from adolescent form, which has different treatment algorithms.
