Undescended Testis
Condition where one or both testes fail to descend into the scrotum during fetal development.
Full Definition
Undescended testis, or cryptorchidism, occurs when a testis fails to complete its normal descent from the abdomen into the scrotum during fetal development. The testis may be located anywhere along the normal path of descent or in an ectopic location. This condition affects fertility and increases the risk of testicular malignancy. Treatment involves orchidopexy, typically performed between 6-18 months of age, to bring the testis into the scrotum and secure it in position.

Usage note: Also called cryptorchidism; distinguish from retractile testis which doesn't require surgery.
