Society for Fetal Urology grading system used to classify the severity of antenatal hydronephrosis on prenatal ultrasound.

Full Definition

The Society for Fetal Urology (SFU) grading system is a standardized classification method for assessing the severity of antenatal hydronephrosis detected on prenatal ultrasound examinations. The system uses grades 0-4, where Grade 0 represents normal anatomy, Grade 1 shows slight splitting of the central renal complex, Grade 2 demonstrates evident splitting of the renal pelvis, Grade 3 shows wide splitting with visualization of major calyces, and Grade 4 reveals further calyceal dilation. This grading system helps guide postnatal management decisions and determines the urgency of follow-up imaging studies.

Usage note: Use Arabic numerals for grades (0-4); distinguish from other grading systems used in pediatric urology.
