Partogram
Graphical record of labor progress showing cervical dilation and fetal descent over time.
Full Definition
A partogram is a standardized graphical tool used to monitor and document the progress of labor. It plots cervical dilation, fetal station, and time on a grid, allowing healthcare providers to identify normal versus abnormal labor patterns. The World Health Organization recommends partogram use to reduce prolonged labor and its complications. Editors should note this is sometimes spelled 'partograph' in British English, but 'partogram' is the preferred American spelling in medical literature.
Usage
Usage note: American spelling 'partogram' preferred over British 'partograph'.
