Freeze-dried bone allograft; a processed human donor bone that retains its mineral content and acts as an osteoconductive scaffold.

Full Definition

FDBA is produced by freeze-drying cadaveric bone to remove water and reduce antigenicity while preserving the mineral hydroxyapatite structure. Unlike DFDBA, it is not demineralised and therefore functions primarily as an osteoconductive scaffold rather than an osteoinductive agent. FDBA is commonly used in ridge preservation, sinus augmentation, and intrabony defect fill in periodontal surgery. The distinction between FDBA and DFDBA is a frequent source of error in manuscript preparation and must be verified at editing stage.
