Edema management encompasses the range of therapeutic strategies used in rehabilitation settings to reduce swelling caused by fluid accumulation in tissues, including elevation, compression garments, pneumatic compression devices, manual lymphatic drainage, contrast baths, and exercise. In PM&R, oedema management is particularly relevant following stroke (affecting the hemiplegic limb), traumatic injury, post-surgical orthopaedic rehabilitation, and lymphoedema secondary to oncological treatment. Editors working for US-based publishers should use the 'edema' spelling, while those working for UK, Australian, or Canadian outlets should use 'oedema'; style guides for the publication should always be consulted.
