Electrodiagnostic studies are a cornerstone of physiatric evaluation, encompassing electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS). These tests assess the electrical activity of muscles and the speed and amplitude of nerve impulses to identify neuromuscular disorders such as peripheral neuropathy, radiculopathy, and myopathy. In editorial contexts, 'electrodiagnostic study' is often abbreviated to 'EDX study' and should be distinguished from electroencephalography (EEG), which measures brain electrical activity. Reports detailing EDX findings should clearly attribute results to either EMG or NCS components.
