Timed Up and Go Test

Standardized assessment measuring the time required to rise from sitting, walk, turn, and return to sitting.

Full Definition

The Timed Up and Go (TUG) test is a widely used clinical assessment tool that evaluates functional mobility, balance, and fall risk in older adults and individuals with movement disorders. The test measures the time it takes for a person to rise from a standard chair, walk 3 meters at a comfortable pace, turn around, walk back to the chair, and sit down. Results help therapists assess mobility limitations and guide treatment planning for fall prevention and functional improvement.

Usage

Usage note: Can be abbreviated as TUG test but spell out in formal documentation.
