Abdominoplasty is a reconstructive surgical procedure that removes excess skin and subcutaneous fat from the middle and lower abdomen while tightening the abdominal wall muscles. The procedure may be performed for cosmetic reasons or as reconstructive surgery following massive weight loss, pregnancy, or abdominal trauma. There are several variations including full abdominoplasty, mini-abdominoplasty, and extended abdominoplasty depending on the extent of tissue removal required.
