A processed tissue graft with cellular components removed, commonly used in breast reconstruction and hernia repair.

Full Definition

Acellular dermal matrix (ADM) is a biomaterial derived from human or animal tissue that has been processed to remove all cellular components while preserving the extracellular matrix structure. In plastic surgery, ADM serves as a scaffold for tissue regeneration and is frequently used in breast reconstruction procedures to provide additional support for implants, particularly in cases requiring immediate reconstruction. It can also be utilized in abdominal wall reconstruction and other complex wound closures where additional structural support is needed.
