Fascial plication is a surgical technique involving the folding, overlapping, and suturing of stretched or weakened fascial layers to restore normal anatomical contour and structural integrity. This procedure is commonly performed during abdominoplasty to tighten rectus abdominis fascia that has been stretched due to pregnancy or weight gain (rectus diastasis). The technique involves placing permanent sutures through the fascial layer in a way that brings separated muscle bellies together and creates a flatter, more toned abdominal contour. Fascial plication can also be applied to other areas where fascial laxity contributes to contour deformities.
