The tissues may be transferred as free flaps (completely detached and revascularized) or pedicled flaps (maintaining original blood supply). Advantages include biocompatibility, natural aging, and absence of foreign body reactions, though procedures are typically more complex and lengthy than alloplastic alternatives.
