The dual-plane technique is a surgical approach for breast implant placement that combines elements of both subpectoral (submuscular) and subglandular positioning. In this method, the upper portion of the implant sits beneath the pectoralis major muscle, while the lower portion sits beneath the breast gland but above the muscle. This technique aims to optimize the benefits of both approaches: providing adequate soft tissue coverage in the upper pole while allowing natural breast tissue draping in the lower pole. The procedure involves partial release of the pectoralis muscle origins and careful dissection to create the dual-plane pocket. Multiple variations exist (dual-plane I, II, III) depending on the extent of muscle release.
