Full Definition

The Implant Stability Quotient (ISQ) is generated by a resonance frequency analysis (RFA) device, most commonly the Osstell system, and quantifies the mechanical stability of a bone-anchored implant at a given point in time. ISQ values range from 1 to 100, with higher values indicating greater primary or secondary stability. In prosthetics literature, ISQ measurements are typically reported at implant placement, at osseointegration confirmation, and at subsequent loading milestones. Editors must ensure ISQ is always spelled out on first use and that values are expressed as numerals without a unit symbol (e.g., 'an ISQ of 72,' not 'ISQ 72 units'). The term appears in operative notes, osseointegration reports, and research manuscripts related to bone-anchored prosthetic limbs and dental implants.
