In prosthetics, the socket is the critical component that encases and interfaces with the residual limb, transmitting forces between the body and the prosthetic device. Sockets are fabricated from materials such as thermoformed plastics, carbon-fibre composites, or flexible inner liners. The fit of the socket is considered the most important determinant of prosthetic comfort and function.
