Full Definition

Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) incorporates imaging technologies into the treatment process to verify patient positioning and account for interfractional anatomical changes. Common IGRT techniques include cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), electronic portal imaging devices (EPIDs), and implanted fiducial markers. IGRT enables radiation oncologists to reduce treatment margins, escalate doses to tumors, and better spare normal tissues by ensuring accurate daily setup and accounting for organ motion between treatment fractions.
