A star flap is a surgical technique used for nipple reconstruction that employs multiple small triangular skin flaps arranged in a star or asterisk pattern. These flaps are elevated from the reconstructed breast mound and folded to create nipple projection and simulate the natural nipple architecture. The technique allows for good projection while minimizing tissue requirements from the reconstruction site. Star flaps may be combined with other methods and typically require subsequent areolar tattooing to complete the reconstruction process.
