In rehabilitation technology, biomechanical alignment refers to the precise orientation of body segments relative to each other and to an assistive device—such as a wheelchair seating system or a prosthetic limb—to achieve efficient movement, reduce energy expenditure, and prevent secondary musculoskeletal complications. Correct alignment is assessed dynamically (in motion) and statically (at rest) and is documented in seating evaluations, prosthetic fitting notes, and gait reports. Editors should not hyphenate 'biomechanical alignment' and should distinguish it from 'postural alignment,' which refers specifically to the position of the trunk and pelvis rather than the broader interaction of body and device.
