Therapeutic Recreation (TR) is a systematic process that utilizes recreation and other activity-based interventions to address the assessed needs of individuals with illnesses and/or disabling conditions. TR services are designed to restore, remediate, or rehabilitate to improve functioning and independence as well as reduce or eliminate activity limitations and restrictions to participation in life situations. In rehabilitation medicine, TR specialists work as part of the interdisciplinary team to help patients develop leisure skills, improve physical functioning, and enhance psychosocial well-being through structured recreational activities.
