Rescue ICSI is a laboratory procedure performed when conventional in vitro fertilization results in complete or near-complete fertilization failure. This technique involves performing intracytoplasmic sperm injection on unfertilized or partially fertilized oocytes approximately 18-24 hours after initial insemination. While rescue ICSI can salvage some treatment cycles, the developmental potential of resulting embryos may be reduced compared to fresh ICSI cycles. The procedure requires careful timing and assessment of oocyte viability, as delayed fertilization can compromise embryo quality and implantation potential.
