Testicular Biopsy
A surgical procedure to extract tissue from the testes for sperm retrieval or diagnostic purposes.
Full Definition
Testicular biopsy involves the surgical removal of small tissue samples from the testes, performed either for diagnostic evaluation of azoospermia or for sperm retrieval in men with no sperm in their ejaculate. The procedure can be performed using different techniques including fine needle aspiration (TEFNA), percutaneous biopsy (TESA), or open surgical biopsy. Retrieved sperm can be used fresh for immediate IVF/ICSI procedures or cryopreserved for future use.
