Minute ventilation (VE) is a key parameter in respiratory physiology and mechanical ventilation monitoring. It represents the total amount of fresh air reaching the lungs each minute and is calculated by multiplying tidal volume by respiratory rate. Normal minute ventilation ranges from 5-8 liters per minute in adults. This measurement helps assess ventilatory adequacy and guides ventilator settings. Increased minute ventilation may indicate respiratory distress, while decreased values suggest hypoventilation.
