It represents the total amount of fresh air reaching the lungs each minute and is calculated by multiplying tidal volume by respiratory rate. Normal minute ventilation ranges from 5-8 liters per minute in adults. This measurement helps assess ventilatory adequacy and guides ventilator settings. Increased minute ventilation may indicate respiratory distress, while decreased values suggest hypoventilation.
