Endcap

A promotional display unit positioned at the end of a retail aisle, used to feature high-margin or promotional products.

Full Definition

An endcap (also written as 'end cap' or 'end-cap', though one-word styling is increasingly standard) is a prime in-store merchandising location that commands higher visibility and sales uplift than mid-aisle shelving. Retail analytics teams measure endcap performance through sales uplift indices and return-on-space metrics. Editors should standardise spelling within a document; industry publications increasingly favour the single-word form 'endcap'. The term should not be confused with 'gondola end', which refers to the fixture itself rather than the display.

Usage

Usage note: Preferred spelling is one word: 'endcap'. Some style guides retain 'end cap' (two words); choose one form and apply consistently.
