The widely adopted international standard for broadband satellite transmissions, specifying modulation, channel coding, and frame structure for direct-to-home, broadband, and professional satellite services.

Full Definition

DVB-S2 (ETSI EN 302 307) is the successor to the original DVB-S standard and provides significantly higher spectral efficiency through the use of advanced MODCODs — combinations of modulation (QPSK, 8PSK, 16APSK, 32APSK) and Forward Error Correction (FEC) coding rates. Its Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) extension allows the MODCOD to change in real time in response to link conditions, making it especially efficient for unicast broadband services. An extension, DVB-S2X, provides further efficiency gains and finer MODCOD granularity. Editors should render the standard as 'DVB-S2' with an en dash or hyphen between 'DVB' and 'S2', and should not write it as 'DVB S2' or 'DVBS2'.

Usage note: Always hyphenated: 'DVB-S2'. Do not confuse with DVB-S (legacy) or DVB-S2X (extended version). Specify ACM or CCM mode when relevant to the document context.
