Exercise-induced QT prolongation refers to the pathological extension of the QT interval on the electrocardiogram that occurs during exercise stress testing or competitive athletic activity. Unlike the normal shortening of QT interval that occurs with increased heart rate, this condition represents abnormal repolarization that may predispose athletes to dangerous arrhythmias including torsades de pointes. The condition may indicate underlying ion channel dysfunction, drug effects, or electrolyte abnormalities that become apparent only during the physiological stress of exercise.
