Strike-through occurs when moisture penetrates through packaging material from a non-sterile surface to a sterile surface, creating a pathway for microbial contamination. This can happen when sterile packages contact wet surfaces, when condensation forms on packaging, or when packaging materials become saturated. Strike-through is considered a sterility breach that requires immediate attention, and affected items must be considered contaminated and reprocessed before use.
