Tumor regression grade (TRG) is a standardized pathological scoring system that evaluates the degree of tumor response to preoperative chemotherapy or chemoradiation therapy. The grading system typically ranges from complete pathological response (no viable tumor cells) to minimal or no response (abundant viable tumor remaining). TRG assessment is particularly important in rectal cancer, esophageal cancer, and breast cancer management, as it provides prognostic information and helps validate the effectiveness of neoadjuvant treatment protocols. Different TRG systems exist, with the most common being the Mandard system and the American Joint Committee on Cancer system.
