Tumor vaccination, also known as cancer vaccination, is an immunotherapeutic approach that uses tumor-associated or tumor-specific antigens to stimulate the patient's immune system to recognize and attack cancer cells. These vaccines can be composed of tumor cells, tumor antigens, peptides, or genetically modified vectors expressing tumor proteins. Unlike preventive vaccines, therapeutic cancer vaccines are designed to treat existing cancer by enhancing the immune response against tumor cells. The goal is to generate long-lasting immune memory that can prevent recurrence and control metastatic disease. Tumor vaccination may be used alone or in combination with other treatment modalities.
