Full Definition

A lung-sparing surgical procedure where a cylindrical segment of bronchus containing tumor is removed and the remaining bronchial ends are reconnected. This technique allows preservation of functional lung tissue that would otherwise be lost with lobectomy. Sleeve resections are particularly valuable for centrally located tumors involving main bronchi or lobar bronchi. The procedure requires careful assessment of bronchial margins and adequate length for tension-free anastomosis. Post-operative complications can include anastomotic stenosis or dehiscence.
