Lymph node dissection is a surgical procedure involving the systematic removal of regional lymph nodes to determine the extent of cancer spread (staging) or as part of therapeutic treatment. In urologic oncology, LND is commonly performed during radical prostatectomy (pelvic LND), radical cystectomy (extended pelvic LND), or radical nephrectomy (retroperitoneal LND). The extent and template of dissection vary based on cancer type, stage, and institutional protocols. Extended lymph node dissection typically provides better staging information but may increase operative time and complications.
