Multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) is a comprehensive magnetic resonance imaging protocol that combines conventional T2-weighted imaging with functional sequences including diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) imaging. This technique has revolutionized prostate cancer detection and staging by providing superior soft tissue contrast and functional information compared to conventional imaging. mpMRI enables identification of clinically significant prostate cancer, guides targeted biopsies, and assists in treatment planning. The PI-RADS (Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System) scoring system is used to standardize mpMRI interpretation and communication between radiologists and urologists.
