PSA doubling time (PSADT) represents the calculated time required for prostate-specific antigen levels to double based on serial measurements, serving as a marker of tumor growth kinetics and aggressiveness. This parameter is particularly valuable in the setting of biochemical recurrence following radical treatment, where it helps distinguish indolent from aggressive disease. A shorter PSADT (typically less than 9-12 months) suggests more aggressive disease and may prompt earlier intervention, while longer doubling times may allow for continued observation. PSADT calculations require at least three PSA measurements over time and are influenced by measurement frequency and laboratory variability.
