retrograde ejaculation
A condition where semen flows backward into the bladder during orgasm instead of forward through the urethra.
Full Definition
Retrograde ejaculation occurs when the bladder neck fails to close properly during ejaculation, causing semen to flow backward into the bladder rather than through the urethral meatus. This condition is a known complication of various urologic procedures including TURP, bladder neck surgery, and retroperitoneal lymph node dissection. While not harmful to health, it can cause infertility and affects patient quality of life. Diagnosis is confirmed by post-orgasmic urinalysis showing sperm in the urine.
