Wilms tumor
A malignant kidney tumor occurring primarily in children, also known as nephroblastoma.
Full Definition
Wilms tumor is the most common primary renal malignancy in pediatric patients, typically presenting between ages 2-5 years. The tumor arises from primitive metanephric tissue and may be associated with genetic syndromes such as WAGR or Beckwith-Wiedemann. Treatment follows standardized protocols involving surgery, chemotherapy, and sometimes radiation therapy. Prognosis is generally favorable with appropriate multimodal treatment.
