Full Definition

Cystectomy is the surgical removal of all or part of the urinary bladder, most commonly performed as definitive treatment for muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Radical cystectomy involves removal of the entire bladder along with surrounding structures and lymph nodes. The procedure requires urinary diversion, typically through ileal conduit, neobladder construction, or continent cutaneous diversion. Partial cystectomy may be considered in select cases with localized disease.
