Detrusor overactivity is a urodynamic diagnosis characterized by involuntary contractions of the detrusor muscle during the bladder filling phase. These contractions may be spontaneous or provoked and can occur with or without associated urgency symptoms. The condition can be neurogenic (associated with neurological disorders) or idiopathic (of unknown cause). Detrusor overactivity is a common cause of overactive bladder syndrome and can significantly impact quality of life. Treatment approaches include behavioral modifications, pharmacotherapy, and in refractory cases, more invasive interventions such as botulinum toxin injection or neuromodulation.
