Neurologic condition where the bladder muscle and urethral sphincter contract simultaneously instead of coordinating properly.

Full Definition

A neurologic voiding dysfunction characterized by simultaneous contraction of the detrusor muscle and the external urethral sphincter during attempted urination, preventing effective bladder emptying. This condition typically occurs in patients with suprasacral spinal cord lesions, multiple sclerosis, or other neurologic conditions affecting the coordination between the brain, spinal cord, and lower urinary tract. The resulting high-pressure, low-flow voiding can lead to hydronephrosis, vesicoureteral reflux, and renal deterioration if untreated. Management may include clean intermittent catheterization, anticholinergic medications, or botulinum toxin injection.
