An abnormal dilatation and tortuosity of the pampiniform plexus of veins within the scrotum, analogous to varicose veins in the legs. Varicoceles occur in approximately 15% of the general male population and are found in 35-40% of men with primary infertility. The condition is more common on the left side due to anatomical differences in venous drainage. Clinical presentation may include scrotal pain, testicular atrophy, or infertility. Treatment options range from conservative management to surgical repair via varicocelectomy or percutaneous embolization.
