Full Definition
Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is a condition where urine flows retrograde from the bladder into the ureters and potentially to the kidneys during voiding or bladder filling. This abnormal flow pattern can lead to recurrent urinary tract infections, pyelonephritis, and renal scarring, particularly in children. VUR is graded from I to V based on the degree of ureteral and renal pelvic dilation seen on voiding cystourethrography.
