Maximum intensity projection (MIP) is a three-dimensional image reconstruction technique commonly used in vascular imaging to create angiographic-like displays from volumetric CT or MR data. The algorithm selects and displays the highest intensity pixel values along each viewing ray, effectively projecting the brightest structures (typically contrast-enhanced vessels) onto a 2D plane. MIP images are particularly valuable for evaluating vascular anatomy, detecting stenoses, and assessing overall vessel morphology. This technique can be applied to thick-slab projections for overview images or thin-slab projections for detailed analysis of specific vascular segments.
