Full Definition
Endovenous ablation encompasses several techniques for treating venous reflux by destroying the vein wall from inside the vessel lumen. Methods include radiofrequency ablation, endovenous laser treatment, and chemical ablation using sclerosants. These procedures have largely replaced surgical stripping for treating saphenous vein incompetence due to their minimally invasive nature and excellent outcomes. The treated vein subsequently closes and is absorbed by the body.
