HPV vaccination is a critical component of adolescent preventive care, targeting high-risk strains of human papillomavirus that cause cervical, anal, and oropharyngeal cancers. The vaccine is recommended for both males and females beginning at age 11-12 years, with catch-up vaccination available through age 26. Current formulations protect against 9 HPV strains and require 2-3 doses depending on the age at initiation. Vaccination rates remain suboptimal despite strong evidence for cancer prevention efficacy.
