Antiarrhythmic drugs are a diverse group of medications classified into four main classes (I-IV) based on their mechanism of action on cardiac ion channels. Class I agents block sodium channels, Class II are beta-blockers, Class III block potassium channels, and Class IV are calcium channel blockers. These medications work by altering the electrical properties of cardiac tissue to suppress arrhythmias or prevent their recurrence.
